The story begins with Bonnie creating a new toy out of a spork during her first day at kindergarten — she names him Forky. Despite Forky’s insistence that he is “trash” and not a toy, Woody takes it upon himself to keep him safe and help him understand his value.

During a family road trip, Forky gets lost, and Woody goes after him. Along the way, Woody reunites with Bo Peep, who now lives a free life without a child and helps other lost toys find homes. Woody is faced with a big decision: continue living under the rules of toy ownership or choose his own path with Bo.

Meanwhile, they encounter a variety of new characters including:

Gabby Gabby, an antique doll who desires a working voice box.
Duke Caboom, a Canadian stuntman toy.
Ducky and Bunny, two carnival prizes with wild imaginations.
